For October, the second-floor gallery becomes home to two artists who make work that is unsettling, strange, and engaging in the creepiest sense of the word.

This duo of artists, brought together by @jimpirtle, Alex S.
Arizpe @alejandroarizpeart and Bernadette Gutierrez have come together to create a show where the grotesque meets the fantastical- and where masculine and feminine, the human body and the imagined body, weave together.

Arizpe's paintings are deeply personal, drawing from his experience with serious illness and the physical and emotional experience of fighting to survive. His figures are distorted, wounded, searching. Relatable. Grotesque at first glance, but ultimately tender and human.

Gutierrez, a University of Houston student presenting one of her first exhibitions, creates intricate humanoid sculptures from industrial materials, found objects, organic matter, and fragments of everyday life. Her creatures feel like they've wandered in from some strange alternate ecology: dark, funny, unsettling, and spectacularly detailed.

Both artists make works that will hold your gaze, haunting us with the disturbing externalizations of our internal worlds. What could be more beautifully creepy than that?
